As a sponsor, you will be joining an international call for peace, commemorating and celebrating the September 21st UN declared International Day of Peace. Your gift will support local peace activism in Northern California.

Once again, we will award two prizes:

The Enduring Visionary Prize - Honoring a Northern California peacemaker who has made a sustained effort to create peace in their community, nationally, or internationally. The Enduring Visionary Prize recipient will excel in inspiring others, sustaining progress, and achieving a measurable impact.

The 2007 winner of this prize was Homies Organizing the Mission to Empower Youth (HOMEY), a peer-driven organization staffed by youth and young adults from the Mission community in San Francisco working to transform the lives of high-risk youth by instilling pride in Latino and native cultures and community. In existence for less than a decade, HOMEY has become the go-to organization for both youth and city officials in search of solutions to gang violence.

The Rising Peacemaker Prize - Recognizing a peacemaker making a critical difference who has been working for peace for five years or less. With courage, commitment, and creativity, the rising peacemaker will engage in progressive change and inspire others to do the same.

The 2007 winner of the Rising Peacemaker Prize was Pablo Paredes, who after five years of service in the U.S. Navy, was court-martialed and sentenced for refusing to board a ship that would transport Marines to fight in Iraq because he believed that this war is illegal. Since his release, Paredes has worked tirelessly to end the war, to defend the rights of GIs, and to educate thousands of young people about the myths and realities of military recruitment before they enlist.
